How do you hope to fulfill that potential? The NSF CAREER Award not only funds a research project, but it also recognizes the potential of the recipient as a researcher, educator and leader in their field. Students interested in participating should email me at for more information. Undergraduate and graduate students will be educated and trained on interdisciplinary (materials and medicine) bone research. The education and outreach activities in this project will build a pipeline to include more students in STEM fields. Will undergraduate or graduate students contribute to this research? How? The new knowledge about bone will also provide inspiration for the design of more robust manmade materials enable the advancement in biomedical materials be extended to the research of other natural biocomposites and significantly impact the broad range of applications in transportation, buildings, defense, biomedicine and energy. There are 10.2 million American people aged 50 and over with osteoporosis, which may lead to an increased risk of fracture. How will advances in this area impact society?Ī deeper understanding of bone can provide insights to fracture prediction and benefit the aging population and people with bone disorders. Finally, the peri-implant bone adaptation will be investigated in terms of its extrinsic morphology and intrinsic properties. Then in cortical bone and trabecular bone, the composition-structure-property across multiple length scales will be determined, respectively. We will first develop correlative microscopy techniques to characterize composition, structure, and properties for ultrastructure and microstructure of bone. The central hypothesis is that the bulk properties of bone (strength, toughness, adaptation) are related to the composition, structure and properties in its microscale structures (cement line and sub-lamellae) and nanoscale ultrastructure (mineralized collagen fibril and extrafibrillar matrix). The research objective of this project is to determine the composition-structure-property relationships in bone at multiple length scales, using integrated experiments and models. However, the structures in the bone at the sub-micron and nanoscales are still not well understood. It is strong and tough, yet lightweight, which can be attributed to its hierarchical structures - also known as structures at multiple length scales. What do you want to understand or solve through this project?īone is a typical mineralized biological tissue that exhibits superior mechanical properties. Mama wanted to see some shows, so we wandered towards one of the stages and I ran into my old fencing coach, Tom. But with me, they get kisses and the phrase "you're sweet" and I send them on their way. Usually you'd call the kind of hitting on they do "flirting" except they don't always expect it to end at the end of the conversation. (As a side note, this is the exact reason when I worked at the faires and was underage, I introduced myself like this: "Hi, I'm Theresa and I'm illegal.") Of course, once they knew I was a-ok concerning the law, all bets were off. I'll be grateful for it later, I suppose. It's nice that they don't want to break the law, but still, I wish I managed to look like I was out of high school one day in my life. I still have a problem at faires and that is that all the guys who hit on me think I'm underage so they ask how old I am first. A lot of the vendors remembered me which was lots of fun. So my mama and I wandered in and out of shops, me buying omiyage for host family goodness and her buying an ear cuff and a rune. Mostly at the faires, you see vendors of all sorts. We get maybe 15 feet in and I run into Mike, so I talked with him for a while then keep going on my merry way. Then.BOOM, cannon goes off and we all get in. Then before they opened, a skit was put on by Prince John and Robin Hood. We stood around until one of the cast (a gypsy) came up to me and invited me to stop by the gypsy camp later and we talked in Roma accents for a while. I was all about getting tickets, since it was 2-for-1 on admission this weekend. We got there around 10 minutes til 10, and there was already a crowd waiting to get in. On the way, we listened to Faire-like music including Capercaillie, Heather Alexander filk and Loreena McKennitt. The Faire opened at 10 am, so we left here around 8:30 am and drove up to Geneva-on-the-lake. Because of all the stuff, my hips felt bigger than they actually were and that made walking interesting until I got the hang of it. I put on loads of eyeliner and was good to go. That was the really heavy part, especially when it was full. Then I had my green sash and a leather belt off of which I had my money pouch (also leather) and an 18 ounce glass bottle in a holster. I had 2 runes (for those who care, they were the Solomon runes Sallos and Ronove) plus a necklace with bells and charms and a hip scarf with 3 rows of the jingly coins. I had huge dangly earrings and an ear cuff that always kills when I take it off. I ended up wearing a huge bronze bracelet on one hand (I have bruises today!) and a coil with bells on the other. I wore my gypsy skirt and an off the shoulders top and about 6 pounds of accessories in total. Yesterday, I decided I would go as a gypsy. Now, I have a crapload of costumes to wear as well, even after I'd cleaned out a lot of them. It's nice to know that Johnny Phoenix did get married and that Mike's daughter Enniveh is doing well. I've managed to make friends with quite a few performers and vendors as well as guests over the years, so I like to go back and check up on them. So, having that history with the Faire, I have to go back every year. Basically when you're cast and it's a faire day, you act like you are ALWAYS being watched. They train you in at least 3 period dialects, including Shakespeare (although I would NEVER try to act it, it's not my strong suit at all), manners and deportment for all the classes such as serf up to the nobility, as well as mythological creatures, and training in staying in character for essentially 11 hours straight, whether you're eating, walking, parading, or even (I am so not kidding) going to the bathroom. I've had training out the wazoo that would make theatre majors weep. It's lots of fun when you have a job there if you're doing fencing because you get downtime to wander and make friends. I've done cast, vending and fencing show. Now, I am an old hand at this particular faire, since I've worked there for years (not the past 2) since I was 15. If you've never been and have the opportunity to go to ANY Medieval/Renaissance Faire, GO. It's a roaring good time for all and much love is to be had there. Although it's not out of my home range or anything like that, it IS a different experience. So yesterday I went for the first weekend in ages. He had done considerable literary work outside of his paper, and his name appears in the columns of Scribner’s Magazine, The Independent, Youth’s Companion, Frank Leslie’s, etc. Y., in 1863, and emigrated to Dickinson County in 1880. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, of the Ancient Order of United Workmen, and was a Knight Templar. In 1882, he was elected County Clerk and re-elected in 18. After moving to Dickinson County, he first resided in Ridge Township. The Secretary and Business Manager, Richard Waring, was another early settler. He was a prominent Grand Army man and Mason, a fluent speaker and a power in Republican politics. Moore moved to Dickinson County from West Virginia and taught school in Enterprise and Solomon City, after which he filled the office of County Attorney. Moore, of the law firm of Burton & Moore, and one of the leading attorneys of the city. Cooper, ex-County Treasurer and one of Dickinson County’s first settlers. This company had a capital stock of $20,000, and ranked among the strongest institutions in the city. In 1893, these papers were published by the Reflector Publishing Company, an organization including a score of the leading business men of Abilene. Within a few months of the purchase of the paper in 1888, both editions changed title: the weekly Abilene Reflector became the Abilene Weekly Reflector beginning on May 3, and the daily Evening Reflector became the Abilene Daily Reflector beginning on May 2. The Reflector had also appeared in a daily edition, the Evening Reflector, beginning May 9, 1887. In 1890, the Republican Reflector circulated only 25 more copies than the Democratic News in 1893, the News circulated 87 more issues than its rival. Henry Litts left the paper “regretful because it will reflect Republican and not Democratic doctrine.” The new proprietors cited “the universal demand of republicans in this section of the state for a Republican newspaper at Abilene” and began the “anomalous task of converting a Simon-pure democratic paper into a live, progressive republican journal.” Later that same year, the Strother brothers established a Democratic newspaper in Abilene called the Dickinson County News which claimed to have “a larger circulation than any other weekly in the county.” In fact, the two papers were evenly matched. With them, the Reflector began a new Republican Party affiliation. Cooper as president and Richard Waring as business manager. On February 23, 1888, the Reflector was purchased by the Reflector Publishing Company consisting of John J. Strother retired from the newspaper for health reasons. Henry Litts took over his half of ownership and assumed full editorial responsibilities in March 1887 when B. Strother left to join the Kansas City Times. The founding editors of the Reflector were brothers Berzelius L. In its own words, the paper was “conducted in the interest of the Democratic party, believing the party in its wisdom in the choice of candidates, from county offices to national, is greater than personal feeling or prejudice. The Reflector retained this status throughout its tenure. In March 1888, the Reflector became the official paper of Dickinson County, seizing the title from the Abilene Gazette. The Abilene Reflector, founded in the latter half of 1883, was an eight-page newspaper published every Thursday. Some people might say that the key of Helpless Neil Young is A minor, while others might say that it is E minor. The most important keys are D or E, as well as C, if you are a beginner.Credit: There is no definitive answer to this question as it is up to interpretation. C, D, And E Keys Are The Way To Go For Unique Keys The key of C is the most common, while the key of G is the least common, but other keys can also be played. In other words, if you want to play A on a harmonica, get one. Because the harmonic minor scale is in A, the key most commonly used in blues, it is this key. Most blues harmonica players, on the other hand, prefer to play the key of A. It is a educated guess because different harmonica players prefer different keys. Next, the harmonica key must be determined. If you enjoy Dylan’s music or want to own a collection of excellent musical instruments, you should get this. It has a fine, polished finish that is superior to that of regular harmonica combs made of stained pearwood. The Bob Dylan Signature Series comb, which is made of Doussie African hardwood, is available in a variety of colors. There is a black carrying case with Dylan’s trademark eye and crown logo on top. To achieve a high level of sonic versatility, the reed of Bob Dylan’s harmonica has been plated in gold. Bob Dylan and Hohner collaborate on the development of a next-generation harmonica. Blown in the Wind, Tambourine Man, and Times They Are Changin’ are some of his most well-known songs. The album title is Bob Dylan, and it was released in 1971. On May 24, 1941, he was born in Duluth, Minnesota. Robert Allen Zimmerman, also known as Bob Dylan, is the singer’s full name. The key of C is tuned to the key of D in the Dylan Signature Series harmonica. It’s a pleasure to play the harmonica and contribute to the betterment of this world. We appreciate it if you leave a question or comment. If you want to learn harmonica quickly, I recommend my Beginner to Boss course. The lesson on Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold” has concluded. They’re called Easy and they come with challenges, so don’t pass up the chance to try them. In my Beginner to Boss course, I provide two lessons on this solo. You’ll learn how to play the solo in a fun and easy manner in this video. If you want to learn how to bend, I’ve created a lesson for you called How to Bend. Neil Young bends some of the notes in the first and third solo sections. In this recording, Neil Young performs three unique solo pieces. In the video lesson below, I’ll teach you how to play the C key on the Heart of Gold harmonica. It is Young’s first and only Top 10 hit, and it was the first and only Top 10 hit for Young. Neil Young plays the key of G on a diatonic harmonica as part of the original recording of Heart of Gold. Young has used a tremolo harmonica on some of his solo records, such as “Harvest” and “Rust Never Sleeps.” This type of harmonica is used to create a vibrato effect. Young has used a chromatic harmonica on some of his solo records, such as “Trans” and “Greendale.” In addition to the diatonic and chromatic harmonicas, Young has also been known to play a tremolo harmonica, which has two reeds for each note. This type of harmonica is often used in jazz and classical music. Young also occasionally plays a chromatic harmonica, which has 12 holes and is tuned to a chromatic scale. Young often uses a diatonic harmonica in the key of C. The type of harmonica that Young plays the most is the diatonic harmonica, which is also known as the “blues harp.” This type of harmonica has 10 holes and is tuned to a major scale. Young is primarily known for his work as a solo artist, but he has also been a member of the bands Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. In his 50-plus years as a recording artist, Neil Young has played many different types of harmonicas on his records. I would encourage you to explore further. looking for relationships in a meaningful way. We can, however, say that the more electrons there are in an atom, the greater the variety of photon energies there will be so this may be a link worth exploringĪs I say, you are asking a great question. as it switches from one energy level to another, then it emits / absorbs photons. We can find valence electrons of an atom either by knowing its periodic group number or its electron. They have more energy, hence, they are part of most chemical reactions. Valence electrons are the outermost electrons present in the outermost shell of an atom. This is because the electron can exist in many energy levels. Also check How to draw Bohr model of Carbon atom. Hydrogen, for example, although the simplest atom, has a whole range of photon energies that it emits. The value of the energies of photons does depend on the available energy levels in the atom. Now, the energy of the photon emitted from any element does not depend on the number of electrons in the atom. OK: I would say that the periodic table tells us about the number of protons in an element and, therefore the number of electrons too. Here is my answer, but I would encourage you to explore this and similar questions further. Planck studied the electromagnetic radiation emitted by heated objects, and he proposed that the emitted electromagnetic radiation was "quantized" since the energy of light could only have values given by the following equation: E photon = n h ν E_ s 1 start fraction, 1, divided by, start text, s, end text, end fraction. Physicists Max Planck and Albert Einstein had recently theorized that electromagnetic radiation not only behaves like a wave, but also sometimes like particles called photons. By the early 1900s, scientists were aware that some phenomena occurred in a discrete, as opposed to continuous, manner.
